Sutton, PhD, jpsutton56@gmail.com, July 25, 2021. BENJAMIN SUTTON LINEAGE PHOTOS COLLECTION Wood, Dempsey Eugene 1847-1921 Great-grandson Dempsey was married to Elmira (Wood) Wood (1845-1916). He is a descendant of Benjamin, Sr. and Sarah Hardy Sutton through his mother, Elizabeth (Betsy) Sutton (1829-1949), a grand- daughter of Benjamin and Sarah through her father, John Sutton (ca.1779-ca. 1848). Dempsey was elected State Representative for Lenoir County on the then-conservative Democratic Party ticket. He won the elec- ion over Republican candidate Daniel Elijah Perry (1857-1897). Dempsey served a two-year term in the North Carolina House of Representatives from 1883-1884. He was a long-time resident of Bucklesberry in the Pot Neck area off of the current Kennedy Home Road near Falling Creek. In 1906, he sold his expansive Bucklesberry farm and moved to Kinston.
