Lenoir County, NC - W.T. Moseley Cemetery W.T. MOSELEY CEMETERY Records copied by Ailine Eloise Mewborn, George Lemuel Mewborn III and Ima Eula Mewborn – 1 January 1969 Julia Moseley Combs and her family have cleaned up this cemetery as well as the Augustus Moseley cemetery, place a fence around each, and re-surveyed this cemetery. We owe a debt of gratitude to Julia's daughter and son in law – Judy Reid Combs Somers and Lee Preston Somers III for all their hard work in cleaning these two cemeteries and sending this below additional information in January 2008. From Judy Somers Also, regarding the Moseley cemeteries, I have attached pictures of the two restored cemeteries north of Kinston. In comparing your list of stones in what we call the W.T. Moseley Cemetery to our record of what is there it appears that you left out two stones: Snoad C. (for Claudius) son of Tully and Holland Moseley, born 1851, died July 6, 1852 and Hardy (Hill) son of Drewery and Mary Hill, born May 20,1836, died March 16, 1881. There are a total of 17 stones in the W.T. Moseley Cemetery. This land currently belongs to Marshall Whitfield and his three sisters. The other cemetery contains stones of the William Augustus Moseley family and is on land now owned by Ben Scarborough on the Airy Church Road directly opposite the other Moseley cemetery. There are seven stones in this cemetery. As far as I know this cemetery is not recorded. There was also a third smaller cemetery containing Moseley graves near by which contained about three stones and was obliterated about 1971. Ben Scarborough remembers seeing this cemetery as a kid and says they were Moseley graves, but he can't remember the names on the stones. A thorough search of the surrounding woods revealed no trace of the stones. An aerial photograph on file with the county shows the presence of this cemetery in an open, actively farmed, field around 1970. One Moseley relative whose grave is noticeably missing from the W.T. Moseley Cemetery is Martha Jones (Patsey) Moseley, born 1834, who never married and was listed still living in the area as head of household on the 1880 census. She is the only child of Tully and Holland who is not buried in the W.T. Moseley cemetery other then Frances who was buried with spouse's family (Kilpatricks, elsewhere). Perhaps hers was one of the stones that were in the missing cemetery??? Guess we will never know Judy Infant son Moseley – son of W.
