STALLINGS and J.T. ALBRITTON. REPORT OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE. Your Executive Committee submits the following report: Since our last report we have done what we could in the prosecution of the work entrusted to their care. The means sent up by the churches have been very small, amounting to only about $200. This amount has been expended, as we have thought, to the best advantage, in the employment of Elder J.J. RHODES, who has spent the entire time laboring under our directions at Prospect, in Duplin County, Woodenton and Christian Chapel in Lenoir county, Tuckahoe and Piney Grove, in Jones county, and in the assistance of the churches at Clinton in Sampson county; and Chinquepin in Duplin county, in supporting their pastors. The means at our command have been too limited to enable us to do any more, though there has been abundant opportunity to do a great deal if we had only had the funds. The results of the labors of the brethren in our employ have been such as to greatly encourage us, and to call for profound gratitude to almighty God. At Prospect, Elder RHODES has baptized 2; at Woodenton 10; at Christian Chapel 4; At Tuckahoe 4. He is greatly encouraged by the prospect of building up permanent interests at these points, which are very important as centers of influence. The reports of the pastor of the Clinton Church are of a very encouraging character, having baptized 15 during the year; and having large and very attentive and apparently interested congregations. While the pastor of Chinquepin church has baptized 5 at that point and reports very decided religious interest in the congregation. Surely there is enough in all this to cause us to thank God, take courage, and press forward in this glorious work. We have done all we could in this work with the little pittance placed at our disposal by the churches. And the Lord of the harvest has graciously smiled upon us in our feebleness, and blessed the labors of our Missionaries. The importance of this work cannot be overstated. The places at which we have been laboring must still be fostered, or what has been done will be measurable lost, and there are scores of other places within our bounds which ought to be occupied and cultivated. There are a number of places, in the knowledge of your committee, where the people would gladly receive the preached work, but are unable to procure the services of ministers, and we are unable to assist them for the want of means, while there are hundreds of miles of territory which is one vast scene of spiritual destitution. Brethren, shall the few scattered sheep in this destitute region, who are hungering and thirsting for the bread and water of eternal life go down to the grave without the gospel, while it is in our power by a - of the means God has given us to satisfy their wants? Shall sinners - our very doors, perish unreconciled to God, while we whom God has not blessed, refuse to give them the gospel by which they might be saved? Oh, that each Christian could think of this matter and prayerfully ask, "Lord what wilt thou have me do?" then we feel sure Your committee's hands would not be tied the ensuing year for want of means to send the gospel to these perishing souls. In order that you may more clearly understand the true condition of things we beg leave to admit for your consideration, a letter received by us from Elder Thos. J. TRACY, who resides near Beaufort. Consider these things brethren, and act in the fear of, and for the glory of God, that his divine blessing may attend you. Remember that "that there is that scattereth, and yet increaseth, and there is that liberal soul shall be made fat; and he that watereth shall be watered also himself." Prov. Xi:24,25. B.OLIVER, Chm'n. 1 1-4 o'clock. Intermission of 3/4 of an hour. p.9 2 O'clock, P.M. Re-assembled. Committee to nominate preachers for stated sermons at next session reported. Adopted. We the committee to nominate ministers to preach stated sermons at next session of Association, report as follows: Elder J.R. OLIVER to preach Introductory sermon, Alternate, Elder G.S. BEST; Missionary Sermon, Elder J.C. HIDEN, Alternate, Elder W. M. KENNEDY. Respectfully submitted. S.PETERSON J.LOFTIN F.B. MILLARD Committee on ministerial support, and ministerial gifts, and a report, which after discussion was adopted: Your committee appointed to report on the subjects of ministerial support, and seeking out ministerial gifts in the churches, beg leave to submit: That in regard to ministerial report, every member of the church should resolve that he would set apart for every meeting of his church, a certain sum, as God may bless him, and contribute it at each meeting to the object, which his judgement and conscience should direct. In this way he would do much more in the church cause of Christian benevolence and duty in the course of the year, and yet did the brethren weighing most lightly. This would be reducing the matter to some system, understood, and the result of his annual efforts in affording pecuniary aid to the Redeemeer's cause, made evident himself, and thus recall to his mind what he had done, and was doing, as a laborer in the vineyard of his Lord and Master. (p.10) As to the best manner of discovering, encouraging and developing the ministerial gifts of members, it occurs to your committee, that it consists in the churches holding regular prayer meetings, and other stated church conferences, in which an effort should be made to enlighten each other in the most comprehensive sense of Christian duty, which we owe to God and their fellow-members. In this way your committee believe that ignorant and feeble members might be enlightened and strengthened, and their efficiency as useful members increased to a degree, that would diffuse joy throughout our Associational border. We deem it the best way to bring these matters before the churches, that the Association requests such observance, in a resolution, and we suggest therefore the following: Resolved, That each church within our bounds, be requested to appoint one or more days, during every year, on which every member possible, shall meet at his church for conference, one with another, as to his duty in supporting the Minister, Home and Foreign Missions and indeed to consider every matter falling within the christians sphere of duty in its fullest sense. Respectfully, S.J. FAISON J.T. ALBRITTON J.D. CARROLL Letters from Moore's Creek and Bethlehem were read. Committee on Religious Publication reported. After remarks by Elder STALLINGS and J.H. MILLS, Editor of Recorder, the report was adopted: REPORT ON RELIGIOUS PUBLICATIONS Your committee on Religious Publications beg leave to report: That the Biblical Recorder, our denominational organ, as now conducted, is worthy of the patronage of every member of out churches, and we take this opportunity to earnestly recommend it to our membership, as an efficient agency in our moral and religious training, and the extension of the Redeemer's kingdom. We also mention "Kind Words" as a Sunday School paper, worthy of patronage. It is published by the board of the Southern Baptist Convention, at Memphis, Tenn. Respectfully, J.N. STALLINGS. Committee on Obituaries reported. Adopted. p.11 Obituaries Your committee appointed at your last session, on Obituaries beg leave to report: That we have heard with deep regret of the loss sustained by the New Berne church in the death of two of her faithful deacons, and pious and efficient members, Deacons Chas. KELLEY and James C. STEPHENSON. We deeply sympathize with the bereaved church and afflicted families of the deceased brethren. We have no data from which to give any sketch of their lives and services, and can only say that they were pious, efficient and faithful. We have great cause to that God that the above church is the only one which has reported deaths. Respectfully, Committee. Committee to nominate delegates to Baptist State Convention reported the following brethren: J.C. HIDEN, B.F. MITCHELL, J.N. STALLINGS, J.R. OLIVER, W.M. KENNEDY, James COLLINS, J.L.
