Lenoir County, NC - Church Records File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Deborah Taylor Kinston Free Press October 13, 1892 Disciple Church Completed The new Disciples Church was completed during the first days of this week. The denomination here has reason to be proud of their elegant brick temple. The design is new and striking. The church has two entrances, one on either hand. Its seating capacity, the largest in town, is over 400. The windows are stained glass and very pretty. There are two memorial windows. Both are pretty, but the memorial window to Mrs. Cynthia Loftin Rountree is one of the handsomest we ever saw. Its cost was $500. It represents Mary, the sister of Martha and Lazarns, sitting at the feet of Jesus, who is stopping at their home. Martha complains that Mary is not helping her with their daily work, and Jesus replies that "one thing is needful" and that Mary has chosen that good part. Below the figure of Christ and the woman is the inscription to Mrs. Rountree - "She chose that good part." The other memorial window is in honor of Jas. W. Harper, Mrs. Charlotte Harper and Mrs. Lula H. Mewborne. The dedication will not take place on the 4th Sunday, as was intended. The time for its dedication will be announced later. =========================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
