Lenoir County, NC - Request for County Line Change, 1842 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CHANGE OF COUNTY LINE PETITION Found by Roger Kammerer at the NC Archives, General Assembly Records, 1842 – 43, Box 5 MEMORIAL 1842 Petition – There is a map at the top of the first page showing the current line between the Counties of Lenoir, Greene and Wayne on Wheat Swamp and the proposed line between Greene and Lenoir. The map also shows the properties of Parrott M. Hardy (closest to Wayne Co), and next to him to the east, Henry H. Gibbons, and next to him to the east, Jesse Hinson, State of North Carolina, Lenoir County To the honorable the Two Houses in Legislature Assembled at Raleigh, North Carolina – Your Petitioners Parrot M Hardy, Henry H. Gibbons, and Jesse Hinson of the County and State foresaid Humbly showeth unto your Hon. Bodies that they live at a remote part of the County of Lenoir and that their lands lay a considerable part in the county of Greene and that their Dwelling Houses are just in the edge of Lenoir that it would be a considerable accommodation to them if your Hon. Bodies would pass an Act in behalf of them so as to make them citizens of Green, the distance to Green Court is much nearer, also it is so thinly settled in their neighborhood that when the Common School Districts were laid off in Lenoir County that the school House in entirely out of their reach, whereas if they were citizens of Greene the school House would be in two miles. The aforesaid proposition does not immediately concern no one else. The now dividing line between Green & Lenoir runs with the dotted marked a little north of East, the line marked black runs manly East the one proposed to be the new dividing line. Our neighbors with us whose names are hereunto annexed join with us in praying your Honors to consider the matter and grant your Petitioners their prayer. And your Petitioners in duty bound will ever pray & C. if an Act is passed in our behalves to this effect your petitioners will call a surveyor and have the line run and marked and transmit a copy of their proceedings to the proper officer at our expense.
