Lenoir County, NC - State vs Lenoir County, 1825 ~~~~~~~~~~ 1317 – STATE vs Lenoir County NC SUPREME COURT CASE – found at NC Archives, Raleigh, NC Superior Court 3rd Mon after the 4th Mon of March being the 18 April 1825 From time immemorial there has been a common goal for the purpose of keeping in safe custody offenders & prisoners within the county known by the name of the goal of Lenoir Co – said goal is now decaying and offenders can't be kept in the goal – justices in the county are Jonathan Rouse, Nathan B. Whitfield, James Dawson, John Gray, Levi Mewborn, John P. Dunn, David Griffin, Abner Pearce, Blount Johnson, Daniel Daugherty Senr, Melcher Rhem, James Cox, Evan Noble, Aretus Jones, James Davis, Robert Wooten, Robert W. Goodman, Needham Whitfield, Joel Hines, Hardy B. Croom and Moses Westbrook – it is their responsibility to repair the goal – Justices to be called to court to answer the state on an indictment for negligently and unlawfully permitting the jail to go to ruin and decay – justices said they were not obligated to keep up the jail ______________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
