Caleb Houten vs William Holliday April Term 1808 Lenoir County Henry Taylor by his Will dated 21 Nov. 1797 bequeathed to his daughter Lucy a Negro man Harry. In 1800 sd Taylor borrowed 100 pds from the def William Holliday and secured the debt by the following Deed I Henry Taylor of Greene Co for $200 by William Holliday of Greene Co a Negro man Harry – condition if debt is paid by 25 December next then this deed is null and void WIT: Titus Carr NOTE: There was not a copy of the actual deed in the file and no date. Sd Taylor died April 1800 and the Will was proved with Micajah Edwards as Exec – Caleb Houten the plf intermarried with Lucy Taylor in April 1801 and the Exec gave the Negro to the plf – the Negro remained in the possession of the def from March 1800 to April 1803 and is worth 30 pds per year.
