(This Indenture was found under the attic floorboards of the old DAWSON house, only a small part of it survived) Transcribed by Sloan Mason This Indenture made the twenty forth Day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and twenty seven between Lazarus GATLIN of the state of North Carolina and County of Lenoir of the one part and John DAWSON of the County and state aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Lazarus GATLIN for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred pound Currency money of this state to him in hand paid by said John DAWSON at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the Recept whereof is hereby acknowledged that I the said Lazarus GATLIN this ----- Bargained Granted Sold Alien-- -- confirmed (much of the deed is missing) John ROE by a patent Dated -------- Armstong WALTERS by a patent dated ----- December 1769, together with all houses and Gardens Orchards Ways Waters and Water Cou---- To belonging or in any ways appertaining To have and to hold the said Land and Bar--- -----appertainance unto the said John ------------- forever and every ---------------- (On back of Indenture) Registers Office of Lenoir County ---- No. 2 pages 204, 205, & 206 the 6th day June A.
