Mr. Beech kindly made a copy available for posting on the Lenoir Archives. State of North Carolina, Lenoir County April 18, 1863 Know all men by these present that I JAMES G. DAVIS of the above named State and County, for and in consideration of the sum of seven hundred Dollars me in hand paid or secured to be paid by IDA DAVIS of the same State and County, and the receipt of which sum of money is hereby acknowledge, have this day bargained, sold, aliened and confermed and by these presents do bargain sell alien and conferm to the said IDA DAVIS her heirs and assigns one slave a negro woman name Rachel about – fifty years old, all my write and title in said negro.
