Grainger to Myrtle E. Taylor State of North Carolina, Lenoir County THIS DEED made this 18th day of January 1902 by J.W. Grainger and wife of Lenoir County and State of North Carolina of the first part, to Miss M.E. Taylor of Lenoir County and State of North Carolina of the second part, WITNESSETH: That said J.W. Grainger and C.A. Grainger in consideration of Two Hundred and fifty DOLLARS to them paid by Miss Myrtle E. Taylor, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, has bargained and sold, and by these presents does bargain, sell and convey to said Miss M E. Taylor and her heirs and assigns, a certain tract of land in Kinston (one town lot) Township Lenoir County, State of North Carolina adjoining the lots of Mrs. Carrie Sweikert and others, bounded as follows, viz: Beginning at Stake on Vernon Avenue Mrs. Carrie Sweikert’s corner, then in a Northern direction one Hundred and forty feet to a stake, then a Western direction Seventy feet to a Stake then in a Southern direction one Hundred & forty feet to Vernon Avenue, then with Vernon Avenue Seventy feet the beginning this lot bounded on the East by Mrs Carrie Sweikerts lot and on the west by H. C. White lot, this lot located in North part of Kinston. TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the aforesaid tract or parcel one town lot- and all privileges and appurtenances thereto belonging, to the said Miss Myrtle E. Taylor her heirs and assigns to her only use and behoof forever. AND THE SAID J.W. Grainger and wife C. A. Grainger covenant to and with the said Miss M .E. Taylor her heirs and assigns that they are seized of said premises in fee, and have a right to convey the same in fee-simple: that same are free from all incumbrances, and that they will warrant and defend the said title to the same against the claims of all persons whatsoever. Grainger his wife personally appeared before me this day and acknowledged the due execution of the annexed deed of conveyance, and the said C.A. Grainger being by me privately examined separate and apart from her husband, touching her voluntary execution of the same; doth state that she signed the same freely and voluntarily, without fear or compulsion of her said husband, or of any other person, and that she doth still voluntarily assent thereto.
