Mason http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00016.html#0003873 December 23, 2017, 10:29 am Written: November 22, 1882 Recorded: February 11, 1891 Register of Deeds Office Lenoir Co., NC Bk. 14, p. 74 Council HOOTEN & wife Matilda HOOTEN to Alexander HOOTEN State of North Carolina Lenoir County This deed made this 22nd day of November 1882 by Council HOOTEN and wife Matilda HOOTEN of Lenoir County and State of North Carolina of the first part to Alexander HOOTEN of Lenoir County and State of NC of the second part. Witnesseth That said Council HOOTEN & wife in consideration of Ten Dollars to them paid by said Alexander HOOTEN the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged have bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain sell and convey to said Alexander HOOTEN and his heirs all the right, title, interest and estate of the party of the first part and to a tract of one half acre of land in Lenoir County State of NC adjoining the lands of Council HOOTEN and others, bounded as follows, viz: Beginning at a Plumb Tree on the public road running in front of the house of Council HOOTEN where he now lives. Thence South about forty yards, then East about forty yards then North about forty yards then West with the public road forty yards to the beginning, containing about one half acre. To have and to hold the aforesaid tract land, and all privileges and appurtenances thereto belonging to the said Alexander HOOTEN his heirs and assigns to their only use and behoof forever. And the said Council HOOTEN & wife covenant that they are seized of said premises in fee, and have right to convey the same in fee simple, that the same are free and clear from all encumbrances and that they will warrant and defend the said title to the same against the claims of all persons, whatsoever. In testimony whereof, the said Council HOOTEN and wife have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year above written. Council (his X mark) HOOTEN Matilda (her X mark) HOOTEN Attest: Rob. B. ROUNDTREE, Justice of the Peace do hereby certify that Council HOOTEN and Matilda HOOTEN, his wife personally appeared before me this day and acknowledged the deed & execution of the within deed of conveyance and the said Matilda HOOTEN being by me privately examined separate and apart from her said husband touching her voluntary executions of the same doth state that she signed the same freely and voluntarily without fear or compulsion of her said husband or any other person and that she doth still voluntarily assent thereto. Witness, my hand and private seal this first day of February 1883. C. L. ROUNTREE, J.P. State of North Carolina Lenoir County The foregoing certificate of C.L. ROUNTREE a Justice of the Peace of Lenoir County is adjudged to be in due form and according to law. Therefore let the same with this certificate be registered. This 11th day of February 1891. E. W.
