By the late nineteenth century, much of this land had come into the possession of Simon E. Hodges (1832-1897). Hardee Croom and William Sutton, who owned remaining three-fourth of this land, were joint owners with petitioner. Petitioner wanted his land divided from that of Croom and Sutton, and asked the court to appoint five commissioners to do so.
