SPENCE 22 Jan 1914 North Carolina Lenoir County This Deed made this 22nd day of January, 1914, by Tonino SPENCE and wife Alice SPENCE of the first part, to H. D. SPENCE of the second part all of the parties being of the above named County and State, Witnesseth: That the said first parties, for and in consideration of the sum of Four Thousand Threee Hundred and fifty ($4350.00) to them in hand paid by the second party, the receipt of which is hereby duly acknowledged, have bargained and sold and by these presents do hereby bargain, sell convey and confirm unto the said second party, his heirs, assigns and legal representatives the following described tract of land laying about one mile East of Kinston on the North side of Tower Hill road, and more particularly described as follows: Beginning on the North side of Tower Hill road at a ditch, Matt SLAUGHTERS corner, and runs with the North side of the road S 79 E 48 poles and 15 links to a ditch; then with the ditch N 7 E 114 poles; then N 35 W 32 poles and 18 links; then N 56 1/2 W 8 poles to another ditch: then with it N 56 3/4 E 13 poles and 18 links to Stephen GOODINGS corner, a poplar stump in Cobb’s Branch; then with the GOODINGS line N 7 1/2 E 31 poles to an iron pipe; the with the FIELDS corner S 71 W 42 1/2 poles to an old pine stump; then with the ISLER’S line S 1 3/4 W 115 poles and 5 links to an iron pipe on a ditch; then with the ditch S 11 1/4 E 9 1/2 poles; then S 2 W 7 poles; then S 24 1/2 W 16 poles; then S 6 1/4 W 15 poles to the beginning; it being the same tract of land mentioned in an option from the first parties to J.T. WHIT FIELD, dated 29th day of April 1913, the said land having been plotted by William A. JONES, Surveyor, on May 22nd 1913; and the description herein contained being according to the said survey, the said land containing 47 3/4 acres more or less. This deed is made for the purpose of carrying out according to its term the said option above mentioned. To have and to hold aforesaid tract of land, together with all right,s privileges and appurtenances thereunto in any wise appertaining to him the said second party, his heirs, assigns and legal representatives in fee simple forever. And the said first parties do for themselves, their heirs and legal representatives, covenant to and with the said second party, his heirs assigns and legal representatives, that they are seized of said land in fee, and have a good right to convey the same in fee simple, that same are free and clear of all encumbrances whatsoever, and that they do hereby warrant and will forever defend the title made to same by this deed against the lawful claims of all persons whomsoever. In testimony whereof the said first parties have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals, this the day and date first above written. PEBBLES, do hereby certify that Tonino SPENCE and Alice SPENCE his wife personally appeared before me this day, and acknowledged the due execution of the foregoing deed of conveyance, and the said Alice SPENCE being by me privately examined, separate and apart from her said husband, touching her voluntary execution of the same; doth state that she signed the same freely and voluntarily, without fear or compulsion of her said husband, or any other person, and that she doth still assent thereto.
