TILGHMAN TO JONES

A copy is in the possession of Catherine Stewart but it is not known what may 
have happened to the original. The land is probably part of the 1000 acres Jesse 
Jackson purchased of the Jones family in the mid 1800's and the Jones/Jackson 
house is on the National Historic Register.

Indenture – 21 Feb. 1822 – Joseph Tilghman of South Carolina, son and heir to 
Michael Tilghman late of Lenoir Co to Frederick Jones of Lenoir Co - $4001 for 
two tracts – tract SS Neuse adj McCoy's Branch that divides the sd land and 
the land of Jesse Jones where it meets the last line of a patent granted to 
Moses Tilghman for 500 acres, running with sd Branch to the corner of sd 
patent, road at sd Frederick Jones' corner, George Roberts' line and Moses 
Tilghman's line now sd Frederick Jones' line, corner of John Herritage dec, 
Indian Cabbin Branch, up sd Branch where it intersects with sd McCoy's Branch –
of 300 acres – also 283 acres adj the above land on SS Neuse beginning at the 
mouth of Peters Creek, line formerly George Roberts and Moses Tilghman's 
corner, John Herritage dec, edge of the marsh, to river bank – it being part 
of a patent granted to Richard Caswell dec for 300 acres on 7 Oct 1756 – which 
lands were conveyed by Deed of Gift from Joseph Tilghman the elder to his son, 
Michael Tilghman dec, father of the aforesaid Joseph Tilghman (the grantor) – 
except the land allotted to Elizabeth Tilghman widow of Michael Tilghman dec 
now the wife of William Truhit and mother to sd Joseph Tilghman (the grantor) 
for her lifetime
