Mason http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00022.html#0005225 December 15, 2020, 6:09 pm Written: 1854 Transcribed by Sloan Mason slomas7@comcast.net Register of Deeds Lenoir County, NC BK. 9, p. 335 Alexander TILGHMAN of Jones Co. to Council HOOTEN of Lenoir Co., NC 10 January 1854 This Indenture made this 10th day of January 1854 between Alexander TILGHMAN of the County of Jones and State of North Carolina of the one part and Council HOOTEN of the County of Lenoir and State aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of five hundred and twenty dollars in hand paid by the said Council HOOTEN the recipe whereof is hereby acknowledged by the said TILGHMAN have bargained and sold, and by these presents do hereby bargain and sell unto the said Council HOOTEN a certain piece or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Lenoir on the North side of Stonington Creek. Beginning at a cypress on the Creek thence with Washington's line N 68 1/2 W 44 poles to a pine, thence N 39 1/2 W 59 poles to a white oak, thence N 40 Wst 15 pole to a pine, then N41 W to a pine Washington's corner near the turn of an old ditch, thence 7 E to a stake, then with J. TILGHMAN'S line to his beginning to a post oak, then with said Joseph TILGHMAN'S line to a stake at the North end of Jos. TIGHMAN'S lane, then with Reuben CLARK and Jos. TILGHMANS line, to CLARKS line of a deed fro L. WHITFIELD, thence westwardly along said CLARK and TILGHMAN'S line to L. WHITFIELDS corner in a small branch, then S 48 E along L. WHITFIELD'S line to a stump at the edge of Stonington Creek near a large water oak, thence down the various courses of said Creek to a cypress, WHITFIELDS' corner near a hollow making into the creek, then with WHITIFIELDS several lines round to the Creek, thence down the Creek to the beginning containing one hundred and thirty acres more or less. The said R. CLARKS deed to L. WHITFIELD for a road beginning a the Kinston Road running to his bridge across Stonington Creek is hereby excepted it being embraced within the aforesaid boundaries. To have and to hold the aforesaid land with all the appurtenances thereto belonging unto the said Council HOOTEN and the said Alex TILGHMAN for himself his heirs and assigns do covenant, warrant and forever defend the aforesaid bargains premises unto the Council HOOTEN his heirs and assigns against the claim or claims of all persons claiming in any manner whatsoever. In witness where of the said Alex TILGHMAN hath hero set his hand and affixed his seal, the day and date above written. BROADWAY State of North Carolina Lenoir County Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions July Term 1855 There was the foregoing deed of bargain and sale from Alexander TILGHMAN to Council HOOTEN exhibited in open court and the execution thereof duly proved by the oath of Jesse W.
