BELL-1866 State of North Carolina Lenoir County September the 20th 1866 This Indenture made the twentieth of September 1866 between Penelope BELL and James H. BELL of the State and County aforesaid witnesseth that I the said Penelope BELL for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and sixty dollars and seventy five cents to me in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby duly acknowledged do hereby bargain sell & confirm unto the sd James H. BELL his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land lying on the south side of Wheat Swamp in the State and County afore named being bounded as follows beginning at a stake at the Duck pond and runs N 49° W 198 poles to a pine Nancy HODGES'S corner then south 46 poles to a pine then S 29° W 54 poles to a post oak then south 2° W 24 poles to a stake then S 35 W to Alx. WILSONS and CUNINGGIMS old corner then with WILSON'S line to a Black Jack. Miller CREECH corner then with CREECH line to the Beginning N 17 E 68 pole containing one hundred and forty one acres more or less to have and to hold with all the priviledges thereunto belonging and I the said Penelope BELL hereby bind myself my heirs and assigns to defend the right and title of the same unto the said James H. BELL his heirs and assigns forever. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this 26th of September 1866. Penelope BELL Signed, sealed and delivered in presence of: W. B. CREECH J. C. HARTSFIELD North Carolina Lenoir County Court, Sept. Term. 1867 Then was the foregoing deed of Bargain and sale from Penelope BELL to James H. BELL exhibited in open court, and the execution thereof duly proved by the Oath of J. C. HARTSFIELD, one of the subscribing witnesses thereto, and ordered to be registered. Nick HUNTER, C.C.C.
