In Witness whereof I have herunto set my hand and seal the day & date above written. Signed Joel Warters Signed Sealed & delivered in the presence of Jesse Lassitter State of No. Carolina, Lenoir County – Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions October term 1838. Then was the foregoing deed of gift from Joel Warters to Needham Warters and Everett Ellmore exhibited in open Court & the execution thereof truly acknowledged by the grantor & ordered to be registered Lewis C. END OF DOCUMENT B State of North Carolina, Lenoir County October 4th 1841 Know all men by these presents that I Joel Warters of the County and State aforesaid in consideration of the natural love and affection which I have unto my Son Needham Warters and for the further consideration of the Sum of one dollar to me in hand paid by the Said Needham Warters have given, granted, bargained, sold, and delivered and by these present do give, grant, bargain, sell and deliver unto the Said Needham Warters a certain negro girl named Zelphia aged about fifteen years Also a certain negro boy named Jack about ten years of age to have and to hold the said Zilpha & Jack unto him the Said Needham Warters and his heirs for ever and I do for myself and heirs warrant and defend the title of said negroes to the said Needham Warters and his heirs for ever. Carolina, Lenoir County – Court of Pleas & Quarter sessions October Term 1841 Then was the foregoing Bill of Sale from Joel Warters to Needham Warters Exhibited in open Court and duly proved by George Jones & R. END OF DOCUMENT C Know all men by these presents that I Joel Warters Jr. of the State of North Carolina & County of Lenoir of the one part and Joel Warters, Sr. of said State & County of the other part witnesseth that where as the said Joel Warters, Sr. has bargained, sold and delivered all of his lands laying in said County of Lenoir now I Joel Warters Jr. do hear by agree to & with the said Joel Warters Sr. that he shall have hold possession and enjoy the said land during his natural life in witnesseth whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 2d day of Jny. 1844 Signed Joel Warters, Jr. Signed and delivered in the presents of us witneth Haywood Watters END OF DOCUMENT D Whereas this Agreement made and entered into between Joel Warters Sr. of the county of Lenoir and State of North Carolina of the one part & Joel Warters, Jr. of the County & State aforesaid, Needham Warters, Everett Elmore of the county of Wayne & State aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that I the said Joel Warters Sr. do by these present relinguish unto my children Needham Warters, Joel Warters, Jr., and Polley Elmore all my rsite title & interest into the property so given by me unto them at any other time which embraces all the property I have at this time & no debt created or contracted by me from this time the property so given by me unto my children abovementioned shall be held bound for any debt whatever her ??? the debts created by Joel Warters Sr. unto this time is to be paid in the following manner (viz) Needham Warters agrees on his parte to pay one third of the debts of Joel Warters Sr. which was created before before (sic) he had a good rite to his property from his father & Joel Waters Jr. & Everett Elmore agrees on this parte to pay all the balance of the debts of Joel Warters Sr. up to this time to divide the debts equally between them so ??? in case that Everett Elmore should refuse on his part to pay his part of the debts of Joel Warters Sr. then in that case Joel Warters Jr. is to pay the debts & to have the negro girl Fan now in the possession of Everrett Elmore his father’s life time and at his death said negro Fan is to return back to said Elmore & Needham Warters, Joel Warters Jr. & Everett Elmore do by these present bind ourselves our heirs Executor Administrators & assigns to pay the debts of Joel Warters Sr. as is stated on the other side and Joel Warters is to let his father live on the land where he now lives his life time & his father is to have a one house farm as long as he is able to work it on the land where he lives & sd Joel Warters Jr. is to furnish his father with a good plow horse, ten or two sows & pigs & ten or two cows & calves & one beef next for all out of the stock of cattle now on hand & his father is to have the privileage of getting rail timber & firewood on any part of the land he pleases. Joel Warters Jr. is to have ten or two cows & calves out of the stock now on hand & he is to furnish his father three ??? year with five gallons of molasses, twenty pounds sugar & ten pounds of coffee now in case that Joel Warters Sr. shall become at any time unable to support himself then Joel Warters Jr. & Needham Warters agree by these present to support their father well as long as he may live for which support we bind ourselves our heirs executors administrators and assigns Signed and sealed this 11th March 1845 Joel Warters Joel Warters Needham Warters In the presence of Louis S.
