KORNEGAY TO WHITFIELD GRADY - 1858 NOTE: Top line or lines cut off from scan Dear Mother and Sister I have taken my pen in hand to inform you that we are all enjoying common health hoping that this may find you all well. Dear Brother you don’t think much about us or you would written before (crease) now. I have not recd back a letter from now of you but Cousin Wm B. Kornegay wrote one to me but I have not heard from you since you don’t write at all you have certainly forgot me; Dear Brother you don’t know how I am situated here. I have taught three months school and have commenced quarter I am so earnestly engaged that I have not got time to go about to look at the country. I have not as many schollars at present at the present time. Several grown young ladies coming now and in all there is 31 schollars. I intend if I can to get off from my employees this fall to go and look at the country. I have 4 dollars for each students & think I am doing better business than I can there on them old Sandridges I can get from 250 to 500 dollars a year here but I have to give for clothing here twice as much as there. I have several grown young men coming now If I could see you all once in awhile I should be satisfied. Dear Brother I wrote to you for sisters part that father willed to her but have not recd an answer yet; I expect to buy it from her and if you have not been at any trouble before you get this just write to me how I must act to be ready to settle with you when I come back there. She asks me 115 dollars for the whole. I think that two much. I want you to write to me how much you think how much I would be safe in giving. Dear Brother, I am not positive whether I shall come out this fall or not but if I don’t I want you to act with my property as you did before hire before I am out and rent out the land if you can do it privately the best do so Please. Brother I am to have same as you ???. I don’t want to hear ?? him nothing more but remain your affectionate brother until further separation July 27th 1858 Geo H.
