Mittie was Lucretia Charlton Edwards daughter of Charlton T. and Dulcinea Caroline Edwards of Greene County. Mittie married John Bryant Hill son of Thomas J and Julia A. Loftin Hill of Lenoir County. Kinston, NC Oct. 15 1888 Dear Mother and Bud, Yours of Oct. 10, was received and read with much pleasure. As it is very quiet, the children are all sleep thought I would try and pen you a few lines although I have no news of interest to write. We spent yesterday at Mr. John Suggs had a very pleasant visit. Sunday before last we spent at Mr. Ed Moseleys. Well you know I take most of my trips in talking and fixing. I worked hard as I could and fixed the children up and then missed the fair. I made Verna and Ethel a new worsted dress in three days. We intended carrying the children and Nan along but they did not have any special train for the occasion and Mr. Hill would not go. The darkey's had a big excursion yesterday to Goldsboro so Nan went after all. There is a special train goes up to Goldsboro tomorrow evening about four oclock and come back tomorrow night for the benefit of those who want to hear Mr. Pearson preach. Mr. Hill and I would like to go but don't see how we can on account of the children. I have postponed my trip in Greene. Mr. Hill wants me to wait until he can go with me. The children are getting anxious to see you. I don't see much ? (torn) you and bud can't come. Mother I want you to come to stay some when you do come. I am very sorry bud has such a time with his risings ?. They say if you will wet them all around with weak blue stone water they will come up in a hurry. Ollie's is nearly well. Was that Mr. John Dixon cousin William Dixons brother that lived up there over Rainbow Church. It is a sad thing. Had Bud been down to Newbern yet. You are not going to lose your pay for your trees to be sure. I believe I have written all I can think of so what next. We are all toterably well and hope you are the same. I m getting sleepy so I will bring my epistle to a close. Come soon and if you can't come let us hear from you occasionaly. Love to all enquiring friends and accept a double portion for yourselves. Fondly Your daughter and Sister Mittie
