Mason http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00016.html#0003873 February 16, 2014, 5:42 pm The Rilyes Creek Union Meeting held her first meeting with the church at Ryles Creek New Hanover County, NC Friday before the first Sabath in March 1847 The meeting was opened with Singing and prayer by Elder Warren, the Introductory Person was Preached by Elder Vernon Song of Solomon 6 Chap and 10 verse after which the meeting convened for Business. Elder Vernon was chosen Moderator and Bro. David M. Lewis Clerk- On Motion Resolved that this Union Meeting be composed of Such Baptist Churches as believe each and every church has and shall have the Right of Ordaining there own Ministers and perfect liberty of conscience in all matters of Religions and that the Union Meeting shall not infringe on the Right and Libertys of any church in her boddy but shall only sit or convene from time to time as an advisory council to advise her or the churches composing her boddy upon the Holy Religion of the Bible the Bible being the Man of her council-and that she will not recognize any higher Ecclestical power than her self thus founded and we believe in the Word of God. But may not withstanding give her opinion or advice on any matter of Religion if Requested by any Church of her Boddy. Being thus constituted by Elder Warren and Vernon and Received from them the Right hand of fellowship as an Indipendant Boddy of Christian Baptist - proceeded to open a door for the reception of all or such churches as might be of our opinion and wish to unite with us. Whereupon the Church at Indian Spring, Wayne County, NC presented a petitionary letter and was Received a member of this union meeting-Also the Church at Pleasant Grove, Lenoir County, NC presented a petitionary letter to become a member of our Boddy and was Received-Also the church at Prospect, Duplin County, NC presented a petition through their pastor Elder Vernon for membership in our Boddy and was Received and the Right hand of fellowship extended to her Pastor Elder Vernon ajouned untill after Preaching on Saturday prayer by Elder Vernon- Saturday the 6th met according to ajournment prayr by Elder Warren the Minutes of yesterday were Read and approved. On motion agreed that our next annual meeting be held with the church at Indian Spring, Wayne County, NC to commence Friday before the 4th Sabbath in September 1847. The introductory Sermon to be Preached by Elder Ritchard. On motion Elders Vernon, Warren and Ritchard be appointed to prepare a Constitution and Rules of Decorum for this Union Meeting to be presented at her next annual meeting. On motion the 2nd day of April in the present year was appointed a day of fasting and prayer to God for a Revival of Religion in general but more especially within the bounds of the Riley Creek Union Meeting - On motion the Minutes of this Union meeting were read and approved and agreed that a copy of the Same be sent by Elder Vernon to each Church composing this union meeting. Adjourned with prayer by Elder Vernon - until the place and time apointed - Sabath Elder Vernon opened the Services and preached from proverbs 25 Chap and 25 verse. Elder Warren followed from 1 Peter 2 Chap and apart of the 7th verse unto you therefore which believe hi is precious. Elder Vernon preached in the evening at a School House in the neighborhood from 3rd Epistle of John and a part of the 14 verse peace be to thee. From the seriousness and attention of the People.
