Mustered in as Private and was promoted to Corporal on July 10, 1861. Promoted to Sergeant on May 1, 1862. Present or accounted for until wounded in the right arm and captured at Sharpsburg, Maryland, September 17, 1862. Hospitalized at Frederick, Maryland, until transferred to Fort McHenry, Maryland. Paroled at Fort McHenry and transfered to Aiken's Landing, James River, Virginia, where he was received October 30, 1862, for exchange. Declared exchanged at Aiken's Landing on November 10, 1862. Reduced to ranks on an unspecified date. Reported absent wounded until July 6, 1864, when he was retired to the Invalid Corps by reason of disability.
