Whitfield, John W., Private
Company C, 27th Regiment N.C. Troops
Resided in Lenoir County where he enlisted at age 29, May 6, 1862, for the 
war. Wounded at or near Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia, May 10, 1864. 
Reported absent wounded until August 25, 1864, when he was retired to the 
Invalid Corps.
