Troops Born in Lenoir County and resided in Greene County where he was by occupation a farmer prior to enlisting in Lenoir County at age 21, May 6, 1862, for the war. Mustered in as Private and was promoted to Sergeant in November, 1862- October, 1864. Wounded in the finger in Virginia in June, 1864. Returned to duty prior to August 15, 1864, when he was wounded in the head in battle near Petersburg, Virginia. Reported absent wounded until January 20, 1865, when he was discharged by reason of "a gunshot wound...fracturing the left parietal bone, severing the longitudinal sinus, occasioning partial paralysis of the left side. He is troubled with the severest cerebral pain and is unable to undergo any exertion without producing mental disturbance."
