Written in hand at the top of the page The sub ---became the substitute of W Iler who was --- three months and as his bible recorded ---- New River, Onslow County where he was discharged after a --- having served in all twelve months --- discharged - rest of sentence not readable I hereby relinguish every claim whatever to a pension or annuity, except the present and declare that my name ------ Sworn to and subscribed this day and year aforesaid. Signed by John Hartsfield We, Levi Braxton, a Clergyman in Lenoir - marked through and something else written in but can’t read - County, State of North Carolina, and William Sutton residing in said County, Lenoir County hereby Certify, that we are well acquainted with John Hartsfield whereas subscribed and sworn to the above declaration; that we believe him to be about seventy five years of age, that he is reputed and believed to have been a Soldier at the Revolution; and that we --- that opinion. And the Court further certifies that it appears to them, that Levi Braxton who has signed the preceding Certificate, is a Clergyman resident in the Greene and that William Sutton who has also signed the same, is a resident in the County of Lenoir and is a credible person, and that their statement is entitled to credit.
