Captain Francis Kilpatrick’s Detached Co. of Militia drawn from Lenoir County, 
stationed at Beaufort

Pvt. July 31 to Aug 31 1812, Aug 31 to Sept 30 1812, July to Nov
Called for service for 6 months – Commencement of service July 31, 1812 
Expiration of service Nov. 9, 1812, time of service charged 3 months 9 days, 
pay per month $6.66, Amount of pay $21.96

Lieut. Nathan Byrd’s Company 2 Reg’t NC Detached Militia
for July 14 to Aug. 9 1813 – Commencement of service 14 July 1813, When 
discharged – Aug 9 1813 – time of service 26 days.
Company Pay and Receipt Roll for July 14 to Aug. 9, 1813, Roll dated June 17 
1815 – Pay per day – 262/3 cents – Total amount paid 3 dollars and 732.3 cents

PENSION RECORD

Declaration of Soldier for Pension
State of North Carolina, Lenoir County
On the fourth day of April AD 1871 personally appeared before me Rich. F. Green 
Clerk of the Superior Court, a Court of Record within and for the county and 
State aforesaid Edwin Taylor, aged 92 – declares that he is married and his 
wife’s name was Nelly Arnett to whom he was married at Lenoir County on the 
date of marriage – day of 1816; that he served the full period of sixty days 
in the (1) Military service of the United States in the War of 1812 that he is 
the identical Edwin Taylor who (2) enrolled in Capt Frank Kilpatrick’s Company 
on the fifth day of August 1812 and was honorably discharged at Kinston, 
Lenoir County on the day – not remembered – 1813 – that he was a private 
soldier, was in no battle, obtained two Land warrants one for 40 acres and 
the other for 120 acres. Col. Blakley was the man who obtained then for me. 
I do not remember the numbers of the warrants.
