The Morning Star, Wilmington, NC, Sunday 1/11/1885 1885
Kinston Free Press:  The train is loaded every day, and extra cars
have to be put on, with negroes going to South Carolina to work
turpentine.  Hundreds of them are leaving and more still will leave,
we suppose.
