Lenoir County, NC - Obituary of Thomas W. Heath ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Found this obit in my great Aunt Ellen's belongings. 1960 (Do not know the paper this was from) "Thomas W. Heath, City Clerk, Dies on Friday Morning" Thomas Woodley Heath, 74, of 1007 North Rhem Street, who had served as City Clerk since April of 1932, succumbed to heart trouble and pneumonia in a local hospital at 10:15 am Friday, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held from Queen Street Methodist Church at 3 p.m. Saturday, with internment in Maplewood Cemetery. his pastor, Rev. T. Marvin Vick, will officiate. Mr. Heath was a native of Greene County, but spent most of his life in Kinston. He was a son of the late Superior Court Clerk Jesse T. Heath and Stella Hartsfield Heath. Surviving with his wife, the former Lucy Ross of Beaufort County, are three sons, Dr. Gordon Heath of Lakeland, Fla, Ben Heath of West Palm Beach, Fla, and Thomas W. Heath Jr., of Kinston; one daughter, Mrs. Judson White (Stella) of Nacogdoches, Texas, and five grandchildren. Mr. Heath was active in church and community affairs. He served his church as a member of the Board of Steward for many years, also as chairman of that group, and for more than 44 years was treasurer of the Sunday School. In his long service to the city he served twice as acting city manager when that office was vacated for a time. prior to his work with the city he was in the banking business for a time. In his comment upon being apprized of Mr. Heath's death on Friday, Mayor Guy Elliott said: "We have lost a conscientious public servant,a loyal and faithful employee and a Christian gentleman."
