Lenoir County, NC - Obituary of James M. Hines, 1889 OBITUARY HINES-Died at his home near LaGrange, in Lenoir County, Mr. James M. HINES, Sr., June 1st, 1889. Mr. HINES was born April 13th, 1811, and at the time of his death had completed his seventy-eighth year. As a citizen and a Baptist he was one of the strong landmarks of the county. While a young man, about eighteen years of age, he was baptized into the fellowship of the Baptist church, so that is connection with the Baptist faith has been for nearly sixty years. For about forty-five years he has served as deacon in the LaGrange church, and for fifty years has been a regular subscriber for the RECORDER. He is held in high esteem by his brethren for his wisdom and ripe Christian character. He has reared a large family of useful sons and daughters, nearly all of whom are consecrated Christians. These remain to mourn with a large circle of relatives and friends, his departure. But he has gone in the ripeness of a long and useful life-he sinks into the grave in the happy conference of one who feels that he is rising to a heavenly home. Another landmark has passed from us, but we thank God for his long and useful life, and we pray for the final gathering home of all that love the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ. J.S. DILL. The cares of this life are many and varied; the sorrows of the mind and the agonies of the body, as we toil for a living, and strive for an entrance at the straight gate, that few are able to carry four score years. But the subject of this notice, Mr. Jas. M. HINES, Sr., labored earnestly and successfully, and suffered patiently and faithfully nearly three score and ten, dying in the 78th year of his age. He leaves his children and a host of friends an example worthy of their consideration, and while they grieve for their loss, they are consoled with the thought that he has gone to reap a rich reward for his labors, and to a home more resplendent than earth can afford. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church a great many years, and his life work exemplified the faith he professed, and many were the deeds of kindness and charity that daily fell from his hands. His funeral was preached at his home near Lenoir Institute Sunday evening by Rev. J.S. DILL, and his remains were deposited in the family cemetery to await the resurrection of the just. ______________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
