FUNERAL OF MRS. STANLEY IS CONDUCTED AT KINSTON

Kinston, Oct. 19. - The funeral of Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Stanley, about 70 years 
of age, was held at the residence of her son, H. D. Stanley, 111 Bright street, 
this city, yesterday afternoon.  Mrs. Stanley, who died after a short illness, 
was well known here and in other places.  She was born in Lenoir county and had 
resided in Kinston about 50 years.  During her youth she was a noted beauty of 
this section, and was crowned queen of many tournaments in the olden days.  She 
was the widow of William F. Stanley, mayor of this city at one time.  She was a 
member of the Baptist church, and Rev. John H. Griffith, rector of St. Mary's 
Episcopal church, officiated the funeral.  The burial was in Maplewood cemetery.
