EDWARDS of Williamsburg, SC to E. F.? ALBRITTON & J. W. HARPER of Lenoir Co., NC 17 Dec 1873 This Indenture made Dec. 17th, 1873 by and between James W. EDWARDS of Williamsburg, South Carolina party of the first part and E. F. ALBRITTON and J. W. HARPER of Lenoir County, North Carolina parties of the second part. Witnesseth, that the said James W. EDWARDS for and in consideration of the Sum of two thousand five hundred dollars, to him in hand paid by the said parties of the second part the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath give granted and doth by this indenture give grant bargain sell, revise, release and forever quit claim unto the said parties of the second part their heirs and undivided two thirds (2/3) interest in and to the following real estate in Lenoir County, North Carolina to wit that tract of land known as the WHITFIELD land adjoining the lands of E. F.? ALBRITTON and others and devised to Lewis WHITFIELD (now dead) by his grandfather in the fourteenth item of his will in these words “I give devised and bequeath to my lands in the fork of Neuse River and Stonington Creek which land I hold by deed from W. LOVICK, Reuben CLARK & James DAUGHTETY lying in Neuse River and on both sides of Stonington Creek, also the lands I hold by deed from Jesse JACKSON including the CLARK place and the Walter JACKSON plantation and Mill? Seat “Said land lying now hold by the said J. W. EDWARDS by Sheriff deed for Cicero WHITIFIELD’S interest (one third) dated Feb. 19th, 1869 and by deeds from Hazard WHITFIELD and wife for Hazard WHITFIELD’S interest (one third) with a quit claim deed from B. F. WHITFIELD & wife & Hazard WHITIFIELD & wife for said Hazard’s interest dated March 2nd 1869, containing Sixteen hundred acres more or less. To have and to hold to them the said E. F. ALBRITTON & J. W. HARPER and their heirs share and share alike in fee simple. In testimony whereof the said J. W. EDWARDS hath hereunto se this hand & seal in the year and day first above written. J. HARPER was the 17th day of December 1873 proved before the undesigned, Probate Judge of said County by the Oath and Examination of J. F. HARSTFIELD the subscribing witness.
