John Williams and Ann Nancy Ballard Humphrey, John was born August 1840. He married Susan Caroline Noble and they had 8 children. James as not a businessman. They lived in the Woodington community until James lost the homestead by failing to pay a $500.00 debt. His father, Colonel John Williams, deeded the new land to Susan Caroline Noble Williams and children, bypassing James, so the family would have a place to live (Frog Level Farm where Paul Clayton Williams lived.) Per conversations with Milton Roscoe Williams and per the ""Heritage of Lenoir County 1981," page 428. tombstone reads: "father" on top edge James Williams Born August 1840 Died Nov. 18, 1924 A amiable father here lies at rest, AS God with his image Bless the friend of man, the Friend of truth, the Friend of Age, the Guide of Youth obit reads: Funeral of Jas. Williams Held at Woodington; Well-known Farmer dies Tues. The funeral of James Williams, prominent retired farmer of this section, was held in a family cemetery at Woodington this afternoon. Mr. Williams was 85 years of age. He was a Confederate veteran. His wife died eight years ago. Death occurred at at the home of a son, P.C. Williams, in the Tuckahoe section of Jones County. A heart attack was responsible, rather than other infirmities incident to old age. Other surviving sons are Benjamin F. Williams, of Lenoir County and John Williams of Greensboro. A daughter, Mrs. J. S. Fordham, resides in Jones County. Mr. Williams was a native of Lenoir. He was related or well known in several other Eastern Carolina counties. His death occurred at 8:30am Tuesday. Rev. Dwight A. Bell, pastor of the Universalist Church of the Eternal Hope, in this city, conducted the funeral and burial services, which were largely attended by persons from Lenoir and Jones counties and elsewhere. ------------- ("Edward" from marriage announcement in New Bernian paper) January 18, 1898 In book of NC Troops 1861-1865, listed as "James E.
