He wrote from memory of family traditions. “H.J. Anthony was the son of Daniel Anthony, who was the son of John Anthony, who was the son of PHILIP ANTHONY [Sr]. PHILIP ANTHONY came from the German side of the River Rhine, his father’s name unknown, was killed in the war between the Catholics and Protestants, in the time of the Reformation of Martin Luther and others. PHILIP ANTHONY [Sr] had two brothers Paul and Jacob, and sisters, whose names are now unknown to me. The oldest brother Paul served seven years in the Protestant War, and was pressed in for seven more years; being unwilling to go again, he made his way to America, and sent money back to his mother and family to come to America. His mother and sisters did not comply with his request. They married in Germany.” “PHILIP, Sr settled in Pennsylvania, Jacob in Maryland, Paul settled in Burk Co, NC. The three brothers all reared families. Paul’s family mostly went to the west, one of his daughters a Mull, one a Folks, one a Coaping, his son Abraham was suffocated in a well in Tennessee. Jacob’s family went south and west, mostly engage in mercantile business”. “PHILIP [Sr] devoted all his attention to farming. After the Revolutionary War he moved to Lincoln County, NC, settling on Jujin Creek (or it might be Indian Creek), some of his children on the same creek, some of them settled on Clark’s Creek, some on Potter’s Creek near South Fork River. He had two sons, PHILIP [Jr] and John, two daughters, Magdalin, who married a man by the name of Shull [marriage records indicate he was Charles Sholl], Elizabeth married a Lantz, both had no children. Philip [Jr] married a Wagner in Pennsylvania, they had no children. PHILIP married Kistler and had one son who married Mary Rhoades. George married a Suchler, they raised a large family on Indian Creek, NC, Benjeyman a Dillenger and moved away, David moved to Kentucky, name of wife unknown to me…” “This is a sketch from memory made by me on the 30th day of December 1876 Signed by H.J. Anthony, wife Arvilla Griffin Anthony” Additional Comments: From a letter written by Vashti Jacob of Shreveport, LA in October 1984, who supplied the transcription of the letter ofHenry Jacob Anthony File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/nc/lincoln/history/letters/ancestry14gms.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/ncfiles/ File size: 3.0 Kb
