LINCOLN COUNTY, NC - MILITARY - Hessian Soldier Report, June 1779 ----¤¤¤---- Translation of June, 1779 Monatliche List for Grenadier Regiment. This report is supplied by the Johannes Schwalm Historical Association, Inc., and is taken from Volume 2 No. 4. of the 1984 Journal. The accuracy of the information is not guaranteed. We thank them for permission to print this report. There are several of the Men that deserted from Charleston, South Carolina and ended up as some of our relatives in Lincoln County, North Carolina. We feel it is most important to give Lincoln County an understanding of the Hessian Soldiers and the role they have played involving lots of our well know families. This report was originally written and published by Raymond M. Cable of his GGGGrandfather Casper Cable of Western North Carolina. We the families of Frantz Rinck, Henrich Degenhard, Johannes Hildebrand are among some of the soldiers listed in this article. There were many other well known Lincoln men that were also Hessian Soldiers. Monthly Roll The High Princely Hessian Grenadier Regiment under his Excellency, the Lord General Von Trumbach, Grenadier for June, 1779 MEN KILLED: Captain Bauer Regiment: 1. Private Johannes Lauderbach, born in Wichdorf, Jurisdiction of Gudenberg, 24 years old, 5 ft. 5 in. tall. CAPTURED: 2 OFFICERS: Colonel Kohler Gahndrich Pauley Were on the name of transport on the way from New York to the Regiment and were captured and taken to Boston as reported. In the same event, 2 Junior officers and 50 privates including 1 Junior Officer and 46 Privates who were captured at Trenton and of the rebels, 1 Junior Officer and 4 Privates reverted. Also in the expedition in South Carolina on May 24, a number were taken captive. WOUNDED: Three Officers, Major Endemann, 1 First Lieutenant Wiedemann, 1 First Lieutenant Von Griesheim, 4 Junior Officers, 1 Drummer, 37 Privates, who took part in the attack at Stono Ferry on the 20th of the month were wounded. Of Lieutenant Wiede Linds men, 3 Junior Officers, and 10 privates were lightly wounded are now well again and doing service in the regiment. The rest of the wounded are still in the hospital for treatment, also 8 privates of who 5 are serving in the Regiment, and 3 in the hospital, and some in the raid on Fort ____ and Steilz near Trenton were wounded and have recovered, but are still useless in the service, and will have to be carried in the Regiment as Invalided in our ordnance. DESERTED: LEIB COMPANY: FRANTZ RINCK: born in Wickenrode Stifts Hauffung, 26 years old, 5 ft. 3 inches tall, deserted the 8th of the month from camp on Johns Island with full arm and equipment. (Lincoln County North Carolina family) CONRAD WERNER, bron in Voltonershausen, juridisdiction of Cassell, 26 years old. 5 ft. 4 inches tall, on the 25th day of the month, deserted on Johns Island with full arms and equipment during bridge march. (When the Island was being evacuated) COLONEL ROHLER COMPANY: PRIVATE HENRICH FEHR, born in juxhagen, jurisdiction of Milchungen 29 years old, 5 ft, 3 inches tall . GEORGE ASCHONANN ? SPELLING born in Wollerods, jurisdiction of Milchungen, 20 years old 5 ft 6 inches tall. Both are reported to have gone over to the enemy on the twentieth of this month during the attack at Stono Ferry with complete arm and equipment and were taken along as prisioners. JOHANNES GUTHE, born in Juxhagen, jurisdiction of Milchengen, 25 years old 5 ft. 1 inches tall. JOHANNES BAHNERI, born in Juxhagen, jurisdiction of Milchengen 25 years old 5 ft. 1 inch tall. MAJOR MALHAUS COMPANY: JOHANNES KNOBELL, born in Ethlen, jurisdiction of Cassell, 24 years old , 5 ft. 5 ½ inches tall. JOHANNES HILDEBRAND: born in Ober Velmar, jurisdiction of Cassell, 23 years old, 5 ft. 5 inches tall. (Lincoln County North Carolina Family) HENRICH DEGENHARD: Born Eilshausen, jurisdiction of Cassell, 24 years old, 5 ft. 5 inches tall jointly deserted on the 25th of the month on Johns Island with full arms and equipment during the bridge march. (Lincoln County, North Carolina Family) MAJOR EDEMANN COMPANY: EWALD WETTERAU, born in Weisen Hashell ? juristiction of Sontra, 21 years old, 5 ft. 4 inches tall. HENRICH WEIMANN, born in Witteringen, jurisdiction of Meilsburg, 21 years old, 5 ft. 5 inches tall. Both stole out of camp on Johns Island the 9th of the month as deserters with full arm and equipment. CASPER GOEBELL, born in Rodenhausen, jurisdiction of Rodenberg, age 24 ½ years old 5 ft. 4 inches tall. HENRICH FINES, born in Westuffelen, jurisdiction of Zierenberg, 20 years old, 5 ft. 6 ½ inches tall On the 4th day of the month, both deserted camp on Johns Island with full arms and equipment. JOHANNES JORDAN: Born in Zwergen, jurdisdiction of Zierenberg, 27 years old 5 ft. 6 ½ inches tall, deserted the 8th of the month from command on Johns Island with full arms and equipment. HENRICH BRANDAU, born in Schammern, jurisdiction of Spangenbert, 30 years old 5 ft. 2 inches tall. Johannes Trilge, born in Breuna, jurisdiction of Malsburg, 19years old, 5ft. 5 inches tall. Both deserted the 13th day of the month from Johns Island with full arms and equipment. FREIDRICH DIPPOLT, DRUMMER, born in Leipzig in Saxony, 28years old 5 ft. 1 inch tall deserted the 25th of the month with full equipment during the bridge march.
