That he resided in said County of Burke at the time he entered the service of the United States. That he marched through the country ?west of the Blue Ridge on the waters of the Watauga River and the waters of New [Neuse?] River. That he served the United States for the term of three years in deriving back the Indians…That Jacob Elexander [Alexander] was his lieutenant. That he is so infirm with old age that he cannot go to court to make this declaration.” 6th interrogatory-Did you ever receive a discharge from the service? If so, by whom was it given and what has become of it? Answer: I think that Lieutenant Jacob Alexander gave me a discharge, but I do not know what has become of it. County of Reynolds, Missouri, 28th December, 1855: David Asher, aged 103 years: “Declares that he is the identical David Asher who was a private in the company commanded by Captain ____ or Sevier in the __- regiment of North Carolina commanded by Colonel Hardy or McDowell in the Revolutionary War, declared by the United States against Great Britain. That he enlisted at Tate’s mill, Burke County, North carolina on or about the ___ day of _______ , A.
