While residing in Edgefield County, South Carolina, he enlisted in February 1778 in Captain Carter's Company, Colonel Purvis' South Carolina Regiment; in February 1781 was appointed First Sergeant in Captain Maxfield's South Carolina Company; was in the battle of Eutaw Springs, and was discharged in September 1781. He was allowed pension on his application executed November 10, 1834 while a resident of Lincoln County, North Carolina. It is not stated whether soldier ever married.
