All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Nancy Poquette npoq@hotmail.com August 5, 2006, 9:05 pm Pension Application Of Andrew Shook, Natl Archives Microseries M804, Roll 1772, Application #S7485 Haywood County, North Carolina, October 2nd, 1833, Andrew Shook, aged 78 years: “That he resided in what is now Lincoln County, NC when he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers…That in the month of March in the year 1775, as he now thinks, he entered the service as a volunteer in the company commanded by Captain William Bateman [spelled Beekman] in the regiment commanded by Colonel Christopher Bateman [spelled Beekman] in the brigade commanded by General Rutherford, and marched to what was then called Cross Creek [now Fayetteville, NC] against the Scotch Tories, which tour lasted one month or more, the precise time now not recollected. As a part of the Tories being taken and the balance dispersed before he reached that place, he remained at that place but a short time.” “That in August [according to the best of his recollections] in the year 1776, he was drafted for a tour against the Cherokee Indians in the company commanded by Captain Rodolf Conrad in the regiment of said Colonel Bateman in the expedition commanded by General Rutherford. ____ the valley towns of the Cherokee Indians and returned about the middle of October in that ?tour having served a little over two months, as he now believes.” “In the spring of the year 1781 [as he now thinks], he was drafted for a 3 months tour in the company commanded by Captain Daniel Smith to guard the frontier against the incursions of the Cherokee Indians at Davidson’s Fort on the head of the Catawba River in what is now Burke County, NC and served out the time for which he was drafted in that place.” “In the summer of 1776, as he now believes, he served a campaign against said Indians in the company commanded by Captain Samuel ?Killian in the regiment of Colonel Joseph McDowell in the expedition commanded by General Charles McDowell against the Cherokee Indians, and served in the same as a mounted rifleman 7 or 8 weeks, to the best of his recollection. He received no discharge from any of his services, to the best of his recollection.” “He was born in the county of Northampton, Pennsylvania in the year 1755. From thence moved into what is now Lincoln County, NC, where he lived when he performed the above service, and now lives in the county of Haywood, NC.”
