All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Nancy Poquette npoq@hotmail.com August 5, 2006, 9:06 pm Pension Application Of Jacob Shook, Natl Archives Microseries M804, Roll 1772, Application #S7486 Haywood County, North Carolina, October 3rd, 1833, Jacob Shook, aged 84 years: “That he resided in what is now Lincoln County, NC when he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers..: That in the month of March in the year 1775, as he now thinks, he entered the service as a volunteer in the company commanded by Captain William Bateman [spelled Beekman] in the regiment commanded by Colonel Christopher Bateman [spelled Beekman] in the brigade commanded by General Rutherford, and marched to what was then called Cross Creek [now Fayetteville, NC] against the Scotch Tories, which tour lasted one month or more, the precise time now not recollected. As a part of the Tories being taken and the balance dispersed before he reached that place, he remained at that place but a short time.” “That on the 9th of August, 1776, he served a tour as a drafted militia man against the Cherokee Indians in Captain Rodolf Conrad’s company in regiment commanded by Colonel Christopher Bateman in the expedition commanded by General Rutherford, and served 2 months.” “On the 10th of May, 1781, he was drafted for a 3 months tour against said Indians and marched to Davidson’s Station at the head of the Catawba River in what is now Burke County, NC under Captain Daniel Smith, which time he served and was discharged by said captain on the 10th day of August in that year, which discharge is herewith transmitted. He received no discharge for the first 2 tours.” “He was born in the county of Northampton, Pennsylvania on the 19th of April, in the year 1749 and is now 84 years of age. He has lived in the county of Burke since the Revolutionary War, and now lives in the County of Haywood in said state.
