In the name of God amen the twentininth Day of September one thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy one I, Joseph Green of Tryon County and province of North Carolina Planter Being Sick and Weak of body but of perfect mind and memmory thanks be Given unto God. Therefore Calling unto mind the Mortality of my body & that it is appointed for all men once to Die do make And ordain this my last Will and testament that is to say Principally and first of all I give and Recommend my Soul into he Hands of God that gave it and for my body I recummend it to the Earth to be buried in a Christian like and Decent maanner at the Discretion of my Executors Not Doubting but at the General Resurection I Shall receive the Same Again by the Mighty Power of God and as touching Such Wourdly Estate VVherewith it Has Pleased God to bless me in this life I Give Demise and Dispose of the same in I the following manner & form?) William Green, son ofJoseph, was born on Buffalo Creek on 16 May 1753 according to his grandsonW, W, Green, writing to Lyman Draper in 1880. The McEntire family did not arrive on the scene until well after 1753. Mary Green, widow of Joseph, married second to James McAfee. James McAfee,Mary McAfee, William Green, and William's wife Drucilla were buried in the Green cemetery at the Bostic brickyard. The tombstones, as recorded by your editor and the late Kenyon Withrow, were subsequently cut off at the base and removed by unknown parties to unknown parts. Their inscriptions read: Sacred to the memory of Mary McAfee who departed this life April 16, 817, aged 82 years: Sacred to the memory of James McAfee who departed this life March 4, 1829, aged 92. Sacred to the memory of Drucilla Green who departed this life March 28, 1828, aged 73 years. Sacred to the memory of William Green who departed this life November 6, 1832, aged 81 years.
