Will of Thomas Low - LINCOLN COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA (1829)- Will Book 1, Page 104 In the name of God Amen. I Thomas Low being sick and in a low condition but of sound mind and memory calling to mind the mortality of my body do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament. And first, I bequeath my body to the earth to be buried in such a way as my Executors may direct and my soul to God gave it hoping for pardon of sins through the merits of a savior and as touching my worldly affairs wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me I will and dispose of the following manner Viz. To my well beloved wife Patsy Low I give an bequeath during her natural life or widowhood the plantation I now live on containing 150 acres and the Negroes Sam and Jenny and the horse called Turk and chain and harness and one Cow and calf (called the Red Cow) on plough and Gears and as much of the crop now on hand as will be sufficient for her to weather the season. To my son Isaac Low I give and bequeath on Negro boy named Dick. To my son in law Jesse Wingate and his wife Betsey I give and bequeath the land he lives on west of Snyders creek joining Bynums Hoovers and Grahams lands and as far to the sound as the branch that runs into the mill pond next above the mill to them their heirs and assigns forever and one Negro Girl named Lucy and her increase if any on the death of said Betsey Wingate to go to her children. To my son Alexander Low I give an bequeath the Place he lives on all north of a line beginning on Bynums line where it cross Alex Low spring branch thence up the said branch to his fence thence with it to a large pine and direct there near the Cabin built by Carter Duncan to Alens line all I purchased of John Duncan north of the said line to said Alex. Low his heirs and assigns forever and one Negro Boy named Willie. To my son Greenbury Low I allow the place I purchased of Joel Bradson as long as he chooses to live on it and such part of my property as may be sold at the venden as my Executors in their discretion may judge he ought to have or his circumstances may require from time to time and one black horse called the Nigger Horse. To my children Franklin, Washington, Thomas, Caroline, Rufus, and Fanny Low I give and bequeath all the rest of the lands I possess not before given, to them their heirs and assigns the shares to be laid off as near equal as practicable by three men chosen by my Executors and said mens division and allotment of the shares to each to be final and decisive. To my daughter Fanny Low I give and bequeath one Negro Girl named Mira to be under the controls of my Executors until she comes of age. To my son Rufus Low I will and bequeath one Negro Boy named Peter to be hired out for the benenfit of Rufus until he comes of age. To my daughter Caroline Low I give and bequeath one Negro Girl named Susey to be hired out for her use until she comes of age. To my son Franklin Low I give and bequeath one Negro Girl named Dove. To my son Washington Low I give and bequeath one Negro Girl named Amy and a black Horse saddle and bridle I got of Alexander Low. The place where Nelson Gutry lives on I allow him to live on it if he chooses during the lifetime of his present wife then to be divided among my children as before stated. The Balance of my property not herein before specified I allow my Executors to sell at venden giving twelve months credit and after paying my Funeral expenses and all my Just Debts and the legacys before stated to be paid equal parts to my children Franklin, Washington, Thomas, Caroline, Rufus, and Fanny Low to be on interest until they Respectively come of age. I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my son Isaac Low and son in law Jesse Wingate to be Executors of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking and annulling all former Wills by me made in writing whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 26 day of June 1829.
