LAST WILL AND TESTMENT OF JOHN MATTHEWS (LINCOLN COUNTY) 22 FEBRUARY, 1816

This is a verbatim transcript of this document.  Please note that the Matthews 
was spelled Martthews.  This is the only time that I have found the name 
spelled as such.  This document was not written by John because he signed with 
his mark.

In the Name of God aman, I John Martthews of the County of Lincoln and State 
of North Carolina being weake and inferm in body but of pirfect mind and 
memory thanks be unto God for the same and Calling to mind the uncertainty of 
this life do make(there is a addition written upon this part:  shall appoint 
…?) and ordain this my Last Will and testament in manner and form following 
that is to say I  ? my Sole into the hands of the almighty that gave it and 
and my body I committ to the Earth from wince it was taken to be buried with a 
deasent Christian burial at the desetivestion of my Executors hire after named 
and as ? such Worldly Goods as it hath pleased God to bless me within this 
Life I do give and bequeath them in manner and form following Viz after all my 
just Debts are Discharged  I Do give and bequeath to my six son William, 
James, Nathan, Thomas,  Paul and Isaac my lands that I now live upon to be 
divided in the following manner first it is my will that my son William shall 
have that part which he now lives upon to be divided between him and Nathan it 
being a pes (piece) of land formally the property of Miller Ross (?) and 
Sampson(?)the said piece of Land to be equally divided so as booth William and 
Nathan may have water seconly it is my Will that my son James shall have my 
dwelling house with the improvements joining thereto the whole pieces to be 
Divided into Jacer patts (?) the first running a short line halfway through 
the middle from the West to East the south quarter to my Son James and North 
Quarter to my Son Thomas and after such division the other half to have line 
run through the middel from North to South the West quarter to be Pauls and 
the East quarter to Isaac and it is My Will that all my stocks of hovfs  
cattle hoogs and Sheepsall my house hold furniture of all things and all 
the ?  together with all my plantation tools shall be sold at public sale 
after my Decease and the Money a Rising there from to be Equitably Divided 
between my three Daughters Elizabeth, Molly and Anny it is my Will that my 
friends Peter Little and Jacob Little be the Executors of this my last Will 
and Testament Making void all other Wills and testaments by me formly made 
and ? rectifying and Confirming this to be my only last Will and testament in 
Witnefs  whose of the said John Martthews hath  here unto set his hand and 
seal this 22 day of February 1816.
