MACON COUNTY, NC - DEEDS - John Addington to Jesse Ledford, 1837 ==================================================================== Submitted by Dawn Watson Note: any unreadable or questionable part is in brackets [ ]. Other- wise, the transcription is as close to the original in spelling, punctuation and wording as I could make it. Page 561 was very faint and hard to read, and page 562 was not much clearer. The last few lines before the signatures make no sense to me, but that's the way it was written into record. pp. 561-2, Deed Book A, Macon Co., NC This Indenture made and [con****] the [13th or 15th] day of December one thousand Eight Hundred and thirty Seven between John Addington of the one part and Jesse Ledford of the other part Witnesseth therefore and in Consideration of the Sum of Seven Hundred dollars to me in hand paid by the Said Jesse Ledford have bargained[?] and sold unto the Said Jesse Ledford all that plot[?] and[?] parsel of land selected[?] lying and being in the County of Macon and State of North Carolina being part of the land bound[?] by the Cherokee[?] land and I the said John Addington by these presents bargain and sell [illegible] off [illegible] [illegible] confirm unto the Said Jesse Ledford his heirs and assigns forever all the above mentioned land being a part of Section No. 96 and District No. 15 and part of Section No. 97 and a part of one othere lot lying on both Sides of Skeener Creek begining on a small Hickeray on the North Side of said Creek being the North East Corner of the land purchased from Henry Addington Runs thence West [****ty] one poles to a Stake near a branch Runs North forty eight poles to a Spanish oak the begining corner of Section No. 96 thence [illegible] Seventy Degrices[?] West sixty poles to a post oak thence South 45 West 16 poles to a Hickry thence West Eighty poles to a post Oak and then top of a Ridge thence South Ninety[?] three degree East fortyone poles to a Red oak thence South forty two Degrees East thirty[?] five poles to a Stake at the head of a Bech thence down and with the said Bech thirty[?] four[?] poles to a elder on the South Side of said Bech thence South ten Degree West Ninety two poles to a Chesnut the South Baindery line of Said No. 96 then East one Hundred ninty four[?] poles to the Begining Containing one Hundred and Nintey one Acres more or less Including the farm on which the said John Addington formerlly lived to have and to hold to him the said Jesse Ledford his heirs and assignes for ever the land and premises so Sold together with all [next few words blacked out] the appurtenences and Hereditaments[?] thereunto [blacked out] with all its Ways Woods Waters Watercauses Mines Minerals and[?] Hereditaments[?] there unto belonging and[?] in any Wise appurtened further I the Said John Addington to Warrant and ever Defend the land and premises so Sold to him the Jesse Ledford his heirs and assignes forever free and clear from all Rents Lawsuits or Imbaresments Whatsoever and also do Warrant and forever defend the said land free from the claim of myself my heirs and all maner of persons Whatsoever in Witness Whereof I have set my hand and seal this Day and Date [illegible] above written Signed Sealed and Delivered in Presents of December 22nd 1837 [illegible] before Signed in the fourteenth[?] [illegible] as to the Word[?] post oak and thence South 45 West 16 poles to a hickry Stump Amos Ledford Henderson Saunders (Jurat) John Addington {Seal} North Carolina Macon County the within deed was Recorded in book B and page 42 therefore let the same be Registered it having been Proven in open cort by the oath of a Subscribing Witness at Jany[?] Sessen [183*] Witness John Hall RMC[?] The above deed Registered this 31st day of Jany[?] 1838[?] J.
