MACON COUNTY, NC -- NEWSPAPERS -- ELLIJAY ELECTRIES, FEB 1892 ELLIJAY ELECTRIES (Local Affairs) PUBLISHED IN THE FRANKLIN PRESS, Feb. 24, 1892 - Vol. VI, No. 49 ELLIJAY TOWNSHIP, MACON CO., NC Ellijay township is one of the best townships in Macon County, and the people are clever as can be found anywhere. It is claimed that we have the richest and best corundum mines in the world, and its owner is one of the most refined and perfect gentlemen to be found in this section. We have good schools, and our township has prepared more young men and women for teaching than any other section of the county, except Franklin. Mr. S. Clark is teaching a good school and is well qualified for his work. Every township in the county should have some person to report news items for the PRESS. I see that Rabun GAP Items are reported regularly and always interesting. That is a good section and contains many clever people and fine farms. - Miss Ruth Ammons died a few days ago from the effects of severe burns received some time before. - Miss Ada Shope, of Franklin township, has been visiting relatives on Ellijay. - District No. 14 has a school in which not a single pupil in attendance uses tobacco. What district can beat it? - Mr. J.K. Bryson superintends the Sunday school at the Baptist church, and Mr. T.R. Gray at Salem (Methodist) church, and both are good men for the places. - Who discovered Australia? AMICUS. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
