MACON COUNTY, NC -- NEWSPAPERS -- MISC. LOCAL AFFAIRS, AUG 1891 LOCAL AFFAIRS PUBLISHED IN THE FRANKLIN PRESS, Aug. 26, 1891 - Vol. VI, No. 23 - C.C. Daniels, Esq. went down to Bryson City last Thursday and returned Friday. He was on a business trip. - There will be a big Alliance picnic at Head of Tennessee, Rabun County, Ga., next Saturday, and a good time expected. - Mr. Geo. A. Jones has torn down his old brick kitchen and is erecting a handsome new wooden structure on the old site. - Mr. Brennon, of Wyandotte, Kans., was in Franklin last week. He is a grand- son of Mr. Thomas Ray who went from this county before the war. - The Meyers Bros. are building a new shop and putting in new machinery, and will make a specialty of buggy-building and all kinds of fine blacksmith work. - Mr. Mark Smith is visiting home folks this week. - Mr. Jim. Moore is in fine spirits and smiles blandly. It is a girl and engaged board last week. - Dr. C.D. Smith left last week to attend the meeting of the State Agricultural Society at Raleigh. - Miss Nannie Trotter, after a pleasant visit to relatives in Clay County, returned home last Thursday. - Maj. N.P. Rankin comes to the front with tomato weighing two pounds. Can any one beat the record? - Mr. Arthur Stewart, of Philadelphia, spent several days in Macon looking after his lands and enjoying our fine mountain air. - Mr. Will Neville of Walhalla, S.C., was in town from Saturday to Monday. We surmise there is some attraction that brings him this way occasionally. - Mr. F.S. Johnston, wife and child, arrived last Saturday from Atlanta, and Mr. Johnston, having sold out his business will remain, for a time at least, in Franklin. - There was preaching at only the Presbyterian church last Sunday the pulpit being filled by Rev. Eugene Siler who preached an interesting discourse to children from Exodus, 20:12. - Misses Hattie Dougherty and Susie Verner have returned to their homes in Atlanta after several weeks pleasantly spent in our county. They leave many friends here who wish them well. - Major M.W. Cannon and lady, of Rabun County, Ga., spent Saturday night with Mr. R.L. Porter on their way to visit friends in Jackson County. The Major has not forgotten how to enjoy a good joke. - Miss Jessie Slack, formerly of Baltimore, and now a Kindergarten teacher in one of the graded schools of Asheville is spending her vacation in our town visiting friends and relatives. We wish her a pleasant time while with us. - Capt. Jacob Fulmer, of the W.N.C.R.R spent a few days visiting his daughter, Mrs. E.K. Cunningham, and returned to Dillsboro yesterday. He is engaged in making a very large drawing of a locomotive engine, which will be a fine piece of art when finished. - A party consisting of R.L. Porter, A.S. Bryson, N.L. Barnard, F.T. Smith, C.W. Slagle, J.S. Moore, Geo. Patton, W.B. Lenoir, C.L. and A.P Angel, of Macon, and Arthur Stewart, of Philadelphia, spent two days on Nantahala last week, hunting and fishing and report a hilarious, fine old time. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
