MACON COUNTY, NC -- NEWSPAPERS -- LOCAL AFFAIRS, FEB 1892a LOCAL AFFAIRS PUBLISHED IN THE FRANKLIN PRESS, Feb. 10, 1892 - Vol. VI, No. 47 - Is the arrest of John Boyd, the alledged train-wrecker, a put up job? - Mr. Jim Dryman set up for housekeeping in the C.C. Smith building last Thursday. - Mr. W.H. Cochran, of Flats, NC, was in town last Friday with a load of fine apples. - Mr. Littlefield, of Greenview, Ill., is in town and expects to remain probably till next fall. - Rev. J.A. Deal left last Friday for Philadelphia and other Northern cities on a business tour. - Four large new pillars have been procured to replace the old ones in front of the Presbyterian Church. - Three more soap-deserving tramps accompanied by two bears put in an appearance on our streets last Friday. - Rev. G.A. Bartlet commenced a protracted meeting at the Baptist church last Saturday which is in progress this week. - Mr. A. Croonenbergh [could be Croonenberghs], of Belgium, has been in town during the past week, and will remain several days yet, before leaving for Norfolk, Va. - Two dirty looking tramps with a performing bear attachment captured the town last Wednesday evening, and gathered in a pocketfull of nickles. - Rev. R.E. Lenoir has moved into the Presbyterian parsonage and is comfortable situated, where he will be glad to welcome any of his friends. - Hon. John S. Davis, District, Lecturer of the Alliance will speak in the court-house next Friday, at Aquone Saturday, at Tusquittee Monday and at Hayesville Tuesday. - On account of the absence of Rev. D.H. Comann and the inclement weather preventing the attendance of Dr. Smith, there were no services at the Methodist church Sunday morning and evening. - Mary Conley, the widow of Bob Conley, colored, who was killed on the railroad a few years ago, received $1,900 in cash from the R & D railroad at Asheville, last week. -- Waynesville Courier. - Mr. W.H. Cantrell passed through town Monday morning on his way to Jackson county from Kansas.
