Daniels went ot Bryson City Monday on business. - Senator Colquitt, of Georgia thinks Cleveland can not be elected. - Miss Sallie Ammons opened a school near the Baptist church last Monday morning. - Mr. H.N Willis and wife, of Clyde, NC, were registered at the Franklin House Friday night. - The young people enjoyed a fine leap year party at the residence of Hon. Kope Elias last Monday evening. - Dr. C.E. McCoy just returned from Vanderbilt University; will hang out his shingle at Welch, N.C. this week. - About a week ago, J.D. Bridges of Shelby, NC, made an assignment and disappear, and subsequent developments reveals the fact that he had committed forgeries amounting to $5,000. - Mr. T. Baxter White has been suffering from a rather severe attack of la grippe. -- The Mountain Eagle - A new post office has been established on Buck Creek, nine miles from Highlands. The names of the office is Bell Haven, and J.M. Rogers has been appointed postmaster. The first mail to Bell Haven left Highlands last Saturday. - Messrs. D.C. Cunningham and Son lost a fine horse at their stables in Franklin last Thursday for which they had paid $150 a short time previous. He and his mate had been turned loose in the basement to exercise, and soon after turning them in he was found dead on the floor.
