Baldwin of Briartown, was in town Monday. - Prof. W.J. Evans, of Briartown, was in Franklin Friday. - Mr. J.M. Daves bought two steers last week that weighed 3,330 pounds. - Messrs. T.G. Harbison and S.T. Kelsey, Jr., of Highlands, were in town Friday. - Thomas J. Johnston left on Wednesday of last week for Oxford, Ga., to enter college. - A Sunday school teachers' meeting will be held Friday night at the residence of Mr. Sam. L. Rogers. - The weight of the earth has been estimated to be 5,842,000,000,000,000,000,000 tons of 2240 pounds each. = The PRESS job office printed some handsome wedding cards Monday for Mr. Dan Lyle and is prepared for more such work. - Two former congressmen have seats in the lower house of the North Carolina legislature. They are Hon. J.B. Vance, of Buncombe, and Hon. W.H. Kitchens, of Halifax. - Messrs. Deal & Stoner have moved their real estate office to the Jas. Williams building on East Main Street. The firm name has been changed to "The Franklin Investment Company." - Ex-Senator J.S. Bell was not elected Principal clerk of the Senate, but has thousands of friends in the State who are resolved that he shall have a good position under Cleveland. He richly deserves it. -- NORTH CAROLINIAN. - Married, Tuesday, January 10th, at the residence of Mr. N.H. Parish, Mr. Daniel Lyle to Miss Carrie A. Parish, Rev. D.H. Comann officiating. The wedding was a quiet one, only a few of the friends of the bride and groom being present. - Last Thursday night was exceedingly windy and very cold. The mercury dipped down to 6 degrees Friday morning. - Attorneys Geo. A. Jones and F.S. Johnston went up to Highlands Friday on professional business and returned Saturday. - The Franklin Furniture Co., has bought out the stock of Hardware from Mrs. J.L. Robinson, and is removing it to the store room under the PRESS office. - Ms. John H. Tilson, has brought an interest in Mr. E.H.
