Jenkins, Esq., of Cowee, was in town Monday. - W.J. Grist, of Knoll, called in to see us Monday. - Mr. Zeb Alley, of Cashier's Valley, was in town Saturday. - Mr. S.L. Rogers returned from Lavonia, Ga., last Friday. - Mr. W.F. Johnston, a promiment citizen of Clay county, is dead. - C.C. Daniels, Esq., went to Robbinsville Monday on legal business. - Dr. W.H. Higgons went over to Webster yesterday to do some dental work. - Horace Bradshaw's wife, a duaghter of Mr. P. Howard's, died a few days ago. - Rev. E.L. Siler cam eback from Caldwell, Texas, with the remains of his sister. - W.T. Potts will sell you goods cheap for cash or good barter. - Measurements taken last Thursday morning showed the snow to be 19 inches deep. - Hon. Kope Elias returned Saturday from a trip to Raleigh and Washington. - A great many potatoes and apples have been frozen by the extremely cold weather. - 2,000,000 baccilli froze to death in Macon last week, and next summer this will be a favorite health resort. - Mrs. John O. Harrison who has been seriously ill during five weeks, we are glad to state is slowly improving. - The iron roof of the Johnston Porter Block, over the PRESS office, was relieved of a ton or two of snow Thursdsay. - We are informed that Mr. Geo. W. Tilson, of Asheville, is a candidate fo Chief Clerk in the Collector's Office. It is highly probable the office will be kept in Asheville, and we feel confident Mr. Tilson is well qualified for the position. He is well known to almost every democrat in the district, and all can testify to his loyalty to the Democratic party. He is 34 years old and has never asked for office before, but has always contributed his mite and influence to the success of the party whenever opportunity presented.
