MACON COUNTY, NC -- NEWSPAPERS -- MISC. LOCAL AFFAIRS, JULY 1891 LOCAL AFFAIRS PUBLISHED IN THE FRANKLIN PRESS, July 29, 1891 - Vol. VI, No. 19 - Are our street lamps things of the past? - Prof. C.H. Burke made a flying trip to Clay county last week. - What has become of the usual summer Sunday school conventions? - Mr. W.R. Johnston reached home last Monday evening to spend a few days. - Mr. C.C Daniels went on a business trip to Hayesville last week, returning Friday. - Mr. Geo. A. Jones went to Highlands on a business tour last week and returned home Saturday. - Mrs. Allen, a widow lady, of Dillsboro, who resided here several years ago, is visitng friends in Franklin. - Mr. and Mrs. N.G. Allman left last Friday morning for Fair Play, S.C., expecting to be absent several days. - Mr. James Williams left last week for Buncombe [Co, NC] where he will spend two or three months before returning to Franklin. - "Since I boarded the steamer at New York I have thrown up everything I have except my seat in Congress." -- Zeb Vance. - It would be no discredit to Franklin to have the streets cleaned up a little and some of the "puddles" drained, and might prevent cases of sickness. - Capt. S.C. Rankin, of Fayetteville, N.C., is visitng his brother Maj. N.P. Rankin of our town, and will remain about two weeks before returning home. - A Miss Moore, teacher in one of the Schools of high grade in Atlanta, Ga., spend Monday night at Mrs. J.L. Robinson's and left Tuesday morning for Chicago. - Mr. J.J. Wilson and family arrived last week from Welford, S.C., and purpose making Franklin their future home. Mr. Wilson is a fine jeweler, and is fitting up a neat office room on Main street where he will be prepared to do good work. Look for his advertisement next week. - Miss Carrie Sloan will attend the Methodist church on Friday evenings at 5 o'clock for the purpose of giving free instruction in singing to the children of the Sunday school.
