Crawford's Friday evening. - Mr. Jesse S. Moore, of Bowersville, Ga., has been spending the past week among his many Franklin friends. - It has been decided that the COnfederate monument is to stand at the west gate of teh Capitol in Raleigh. It is a shaft, sixty feet high and will cost $25,000. M. Muldoon of Kentucky, is the designer. - We suppose large shipments of yellow-legged chickens will be made to Charlotte during the next week. The Western N.C. Conference meets there on the 30th and many FOWL executions expected. - In the United States court, James H.O. Dear, who was convicted of perjury in making application for a pension, was sentenced to two years at hard labor in the Albany penitentiary and to pay a fine of $100. - What has become of our Hayesville correspondent? Where is our Clayton scribbler? What's the matter with our Rabun Gap and Tennessee Valley itemizers? We would like to have the news from these localities. - An inspection of the thanksgiving present, announced in last week's PRESS, convinces us that it will be disappointing to the expectations of our subscribers, and is not what we were led to think it was, therefore, we withdraw the preposition. - Swain county is courting this week. - Macon county mica won a medal at the World's Fair - Wayesville and Asheville had light snow last Wednesday morning. - Chief Clerk S.L. Rogers came in Monday evening on a visit to his family. - The Methodist Sunday School is making preparations to have a Christmas tree. - Asheville royally entertained the Gridiron Club of Washington City last Friday. - Miss Bettie Merony, of Murphy, cousin to Mrs. R.L. Porter, is visiting Franklin. - Lee Barnard and Franklin Williams left Monday for Kentcuky to sell mill dressing rights. - A sociable at Capt. R.L. Porter's Monday evening engaged the attention of the young people. - Mr. Leon Addington, of Bushnell, has been circulating among his Franklin friends during the past week. - Mr. L.Z. Leifter of Chicago, has given $100,000 to the Columbian Museum on condition that it be retained in Jackon Park. - Hon. Kope Elias came from Graham court and spent Saturday and Sunday with his family and returned to Swain court Monday. - A terrible storm prevailed at Dunkirk, NY, Wednesday, assuming blizzard proportions at times. About 8 inches of snow fall. - The Waynesville Courier announces that it will adopt the pay in advance system after the 1st of January. The Courier is correct. - Married Sunday November 19th, 1893, at the residence of Mr. E.H. Franks, the bride's father. Mr. D.L. Garland to Miss MInnie Franks. - We regret exceedingly to learn that Mrs. J.T. Patton died Monday of typhoid fever. She leaves two small children, a bereaved husband and many friends to mourn her loss. - Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Daniels are happy over a new accession to their family circle in the person of a fine new daughter. The interesting event occurred last Friday and all are doing well. The PRESS extends congratulations. - Within the last week we have learned of the location and occupation of two of our former pupils. Oliver M. Abbot is principal of a High School at New Port, Ga., and Luther J. Truett, principal of Franklin Institue, Mt. Vernon, Texas. - We regret to announce the death of Rev. and Mrs. D.H.
