MACON COUNTY, NC -- NEWSPAPERS -- LOCAL AFFAIRS, OCT 1892 LOCAL AFFAIRS PUBLISHED IN THE FRANKLIN PRESS, Oct. 19, 1892 - Vol. VII, No. 31 - Mrs. C.D. Bowers, of Highlands, is visiting friends in Franklin. - J.A. Porter has gone to Macon county for a week's hunt. -- CITIZEN - Mrs. W.H. Malone, of Asheville, died at 4 o'clock last Wednesday morning. - Rev. S. Rhodes, of Cashiers Valley, is spending several days in Franklin. - Mr. Jas. A Porter left with a car load of beef cattle for Richmond Saturday morning. - Mrs. Capt. J.W. Terrell, and Miss Belle Leatherwood, of Webster, are visiting Mrs. Laura Robertson. - Saml. Bruce, aged over sixty years, died last Thursday of dropsy. He lived about four miles from town. - Messrs. J.A. Porter, of Asheville, and HUntington Wiltson, and B.M. Wilson, of Chicago, spent last week bird shooting in the vicinity of Franklin. - Married at the residence of Grundy Hill in Horse Cove, NC, October 13th 189, by Rev. D.H. Comann, Mr. James M. Brown to Miss Cassie Hill. Mr. Theo. Munday accompanied Rev. Mr. Comann. - Mr. Bast and his sister Mrs. Murphy and her two little sons, who have been spending the summer at the Allman House, left last Thursday. Mrs. Murphy and her sons will go to Floriday, but Mr. Bast will return to Franklin after a few days to remain awhile before returning to Florida. - Mr. T.W. McLoud has brought to our office a curious freak of nature. It is an Irish potato through which a shoot of grass root has penetrated, entering near one end and penetrating over three inches and coming out near the other end. The shoot remains in the potato. - We learn that a difficulty occurred last Saturday in Graham county between a man named Edwards and a son of Joel Loven's, in which Loven was shot. Edwards was arrested and placed in jail at Robbinsville. Dr. S.H.
